Common indications that a pool may need repair include nicks, blisters, hollows, cracks, discolorations, and uneven surfaces. Sometimes leaks occur, which can waste water and make maintaining the pool’s proper water chemistry difficult. Below the water surface, uneven steps, projecting edges and other defects can negatively affect a swimmer’s experience, and sometimes even cause a safety issue.

The pool surface generally will last ten to twelve years, and then may need replacement. Any problem with the surface, such as nicks or cracks may allow water to come into contact with a pool’s concrete shell, which can over time weaken the shell. Resurfacing the pool surface is the most common repair.
